Uniromatre summer school of audiovisual translation (USSAT)
Link identifier #identifier__137026-2Call for admission
The USSAT is aimed at providing an in-depth knowledge of the technical translation mechanisms of audiovisual translation. Particularly, depending on the individual choice and the edition of the course, specific modes of AVT will be subject of in-depth study.
Thanks to the careful articulation of the formative path, the USSAT offers to each member the opportunity to extend the skills they acquired during previous educational paths and to increase their ability to apply the new skills, concerning the professional and educational areas.
The development of such skills is achieved through specific activities, designed to apply active and passive language abilities, regarding the chosen module.
Methods and tools for such acquisition process are tailored on two levels, through frontal teaching activities both in presence and remotely.
The USSAT is aimed at first level degree students and graduates, second level degree students, master and doctoral students, research doctors and secondary school teachers, who are able to provide certified linguistic and communicative proficiency (B2/C1) in the languages included in the USSAT modules, and who wish to further develop their skills and abilities regarding one of the offered AVT modes.
Each member can attend a total of 4 theoretical-practical modules, for a duration of 20 hours in presence (4 hours per day for 5 days, within a single week) and 10 hours of remotely assisted individual course.
Focus areas
Regarding USSAT’s fields of interest, the study modules refer to interlinguistic subtitling (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Romanian, and starting from the next edition, Chinese) and other AVT modes.
Specific educational objectives
The aim of the Summer School is to train audiovisual translators, mainly in the practice of subtitling, offering the possibility to acquire technical-translation skills, to be added to the communicative competence in the (variety of) languages subject of the chosen modules.
Occupational and professional opportunities for graduates
The modules are intended to enable the acquisition of a series of transversal skills which are highly expendable in the world of work in audiovisual translation. Therefore, the training will be useful both to those interested in improving their training (first and second level degree, master’s degree, doctorate, post-doctorate) and to those who work or intend to work in the audiovisual translation field. The Summer School is also aimed at secondary school teachers involved in teaching the languages covered by the modules, as a refresher training.
